HACA is
not accepting applications for any programs at this
time. Currently, there are thousand of applicants on HACA’s
Section 8 and Public Housing Wait Lists. We don’t anticipate
opening the wait list or accepting applications for months,
possibly even years. When we do, we will place a notice on
the home page of our Web site, www.haca.net, and in the
Public Notice section of local newspapers.
Far more
people need housing assistance than what HACA can provide.
Because of the overwhelming demand for assistance, when
HACA’s wait lists get low, we hold a lottery to select
families to add to the wait list. A lottery ensures that all
families who express an interest in Section 8 or Public
Housing assistance are given an equal opportunity to apply
for a limited number of openings.
If you
are currently on one of HACA’s Wait Lists, click
HERE
to find out how close you are to the top. Your place on the
wait list can go up or down as families’ preferences change.
In
addition to housing assistance provided by HACA,
privately-owned, government-subsidized housing is available.
The government provides subsidies directly to the owners of
these properties who then are able to reduce their rents to
low-income tenants. There are privately owned subsidized
housing units for senior citizens and people with
disabilities, as well as for families and individuals. Visit
