Section 8 Home Ownership

The Section 8 Home Ownership Program offers an opportunity for families to purchase a residence using their Housing Choice Voucher subsidy as part of their mortgage payment. This will enable some families to become home owners. Purchasing a home in the County of Alameda remains a significant challenge even with Section 8 assistance due to the very high cost of homes.

If you are a tenant of the Housing Authority of the County of Alameda (HACA) and have been a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher holder for at least 12 months, you may qualify to join the Section 8 Home Ownership Preparation Program. You may qualify if:

  1. You are elderly or disabled

    OR

  2. You are employed and earning a minimum of $10,500 annually. You will need to have good credit or be working to clean up any credit problems.  You must also be a member in good standing of the Family Self Sufficiency Program (FSS)

How to apply:

If you are elderly or disabled, call (510) 727-8582, state that you are elderly or disabled and interested in Section 8 Home Ownership, then clearly say your name, address, and telephone number.  You will be contacted.

All employed persons, call (510) 727-8582 and request an FSS and Home Ownership application form.  Leave your name, address and telephone number.
