As one of your local housing authorities, The Housing Authority of Alameda County's goal for this site is to provide our local residents with vital information for disaster preparedness. Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Communities, families, and individuals should know what to do in the event of a fire and where to seek shelter during an earthquake.

Residents should be ready to evacuate their homes and take refuge in public shelters and know how to care for their basic medical needs.

We strongly encourage our residents to have the following completed before a disaster strikes in Alameda County.  Click on the links to the left for valuable information AND keep up-to-date with the latest articles in "The News" link as well.

If an evacuation is called in Alameda County, local officials will provide information via television and radio broadcasts. Government agencies, the American Red Cross and other disaster relief organizations will provide emergency shelter and supplies. But just in case, you should plan to have enough water, food, clothing and emergency supplies to last at least three days. In the event of a catastrophic national emergency, you could need to be self‑sufficient for at least two weeks.

Choose an emergency contact person outside your area because it may be easier to call long distance than locally after a local/regional disaster. Take a minute now to call or e-mail an out-of-town friend or family member to ask him or her to be your family’s designated contact in the event of an emergency. Be sure to share the contact's phone number with everyone in the family. During an emergency, you can call your contact who can share with other family members where you are; how you are doing; and how to get in contact with you.
