HACA’s office building is temporarily closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions until further notice.  Our services are operational via phone, US mail, and e-mail only.

A Message from HACA’s Executive Director

It’s been a year since the virus known as COVID-19 came to rule the world and our lives. For the Housing Authority of the County of Alameda (HACA), immediate actions were taken to ensure the safety of program participants and staff.  The office was closed to the public and remains so a year later.  Many employees began working from home and continue to the present.

Every accommodation made in the last year related to COVID-19 has been to ensure the health of clients, HACA employees, and the community.  Our primary focus has been on minimizing any disruption in services to clients.  HACA staff continue to efficiently process rent adjustments and make timely payments to landlords and vendors.  Work orders for residents of HACA properties are being prioritized and completed to the greatest extent possible.

Activities previously held in person have now gone virtual or contact-less.  For example, rather than cancel two important Family Self-Sufficiency annual events – the Back-to-School Backpack giveaway and the “Your Night to Shine” recognition gala – they went ahead with innovations that ensured safety and brought greater participation.  I’m so impressed by the resiliency and creativity of HACA staff and participants during this pandemic!

We’re now working with public health officials to access COVID-19 vaccinations for seniors, caregivers, and HACA’s essential staff.  Widespread vaccinations is an important step towards ending the pandemic.

I wish you and your loved one’s patience, good health, and resiliency during this difficult time.
Kurt Wiest, Executive Director
